The Athens County Humane Society is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. They are a 100% volunteer organization. They provide monthly low cost spay/neuter clinics to reduce the homeless pet population in our county. In 2011, 700 cats and 200 dogs were altered through the clinics facilitated by ACHS. They operate with very limited foster homes in order to assist pets needing homes (foster homes are always needed), there is no shelter. Visit their website for information about monthly adoption events and spay/neuter clinics. All programs are supported through fundraising, donations and memberships; they do not receive government funding.
ACHS is not affiliated with the Athens County Dog Shelter which is a county-run shelter, not a non-profit, with a similar name.
